Why People Walk Through the Door

Most People Show Up for One of Three Reasons.

A kid who needs confidence. A body that needs something better than the gym. A real worry about being able to protect yourself. We hear all three every week.

  1. Young students fist-bumping in their gis at 805 Combat Sports in Simi Valley
    01

You want your kid to have something that is theirs.

"I want my kid to build confidence, focus, and the kind of grit that does not come from a screen."

  2. Adults rolling Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 805 Combat Sports in Simi Valley
    02

The regular gym stopped doing anything for you.

"I am tired of counting reps. I want to actually learn something and get in shape while I do it."

  3. A woman drilling a self-defense technique at 805 Combat Sports in Simi Valley
    03

You want to know you could protect yourself.

"I do not want to feel helpless. I want to know that if it ever came to it, I would not freeze."

Not Sure Where to Start?

Answer one question and we will point you to the right place.

Who is this for?

No Hype. No McDojo.

What Training Here Actually Looks Like.

Pure Machado Lineage

We are an official Carlos Machado academy. The Jiu-Jitsu you learn here traces straight through the Machado family to Carlos Gracie: no diluted curriculum, no made-up belts.

A Room Without Ego

Beginners roll with people who protect them. Nobody is trying to prove a point on a first-timer. That is how members stay healthy and stay on the mat for years instead of months.

Taught at Your Pace

Whether you are 4 or 40, brand new or coming back after years off, instructors meet you exactly where you are. Progress is real and earned, never rushed.

The Standard in the Room

Joshua "Cowboy" Ruiz

Carlos Machado Black Belt

Trained here from his first white-belt class in 2016 to black belt and owner.

CMBJJ

Joshua "Cowboy" Ruiz walked into 805 as a white belt in 2016 and never left. He earned every belt on this mat and now owns the academy and leads instruction. Off the mat he has worked as a bounty hunter and executive-protection specialist since 2011, which is where his self-defense teaching comes from: real situations, taught plainly, with no ego. His standard for the room is the one in the name on the door: train smart, stay humble.

What People Always Ask

Everything You Want to Know Before You Come In.

How old does my child need to be to start?

Kids can start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with us at age 4 in our Kids BJJ program (ages 4 to 6), then move into Youth BJJ for ages 7 to 12, and into the adult program at 13. We also run Muay Thai for kids 6 and up. Every class is built for its age group.

What is the free week and what does it include?

Your first week is free: unlimited classes across the whole schedule. Pick a class, show up, and train as much as you want for one full week. No long-term contract to start and no pressure. It is the most honest way to see if 805 is the right fit.

I have never trained before. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most of our members walked in with zero experience. Beginners are welcome in every class, technique is broken down so it makes sense, and the room is drama-free on purpose. You will not be thrown to the wolves on day one.

What styles do you teach in Simi Valley?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in both gi and no-gi, Muay Thai kickboxing, and a women-led self-defense program, plus martial-arts fitness and conditioning. We are an official Carlos Machado academy, so the BJJ traces straight through the Machado family to Carlos Gracie.

Is BJJ safe?

BJJ has one of the lowest injury rates in martial arts. No strikes to the face, no knockouts, and live rolling is introduced only when your technique is ready. Our culture, train smart, stay humble, is built around keeping people healthy on the mat for years.

Do you have a discount for first responders or military?

Yes. Military, law enforcement, first responders, security, and healthcare workers train for $150/mo. Parents are also welcome to train free on the mat alongside their children.

What does membership cost after the free week?

BJJ is $200/mo, Muay Thai is $150/mo, both together are $250/mo, and fitness-only is $125/mo. There is an annual paid-in-full option that includes a free uniform and two months free. We will walk you through it after your free week.

The Quiet Cost of Waiting

A Year From Now, You'll Wish You Had Started This Week.

Everyone who has trained here for years started with one nervous first class. The only difference between them and you is the date on the calendar.

  • The confidence your kid is missing is the same confidence a year of training builds, quietly, one class at a time.

  • The "I should really get in shape" you have been saying for months becomes a skill you actually have, and a body that moves better.

  • Knowing you could protect yourself is not paranoia. It is one of the most settling things a person can carry, and it starts on day one.

Walk In This Week

The First Week Is Free. The Hardest Part Is Showing Up.

Pick a class time, walk in, and train a full week on us. Train smart, stay humble. We'll take it from there.
